Introduction
- General Surgery: Gastro-intestinal
anastomosis, pulmonary and thoracic metastecetomy, acute management
of and long term outcomes in patients with diverticular disease,
and venous ulceration.
- Venous disease: The thesis,
'Objective Assessment of Venous Disease and the effect on function'
was awarded the degree of Master of Surgery by the University
of Southampton in 1993. Extensive publications on investigation
and treatment of venous disease.
- Assessing Surgeons Performance: Development
of a risk stratification model (Surgical Risk Scale) to predict
surgical outcomes across a range of surgical procedures enabling
accurate comparison of surgical practice. Comparison of the SRS
with previously developed models (eg POSSUM)
Current projects
- Presentation of original work at the World Congress of Phlebolgy
(4 papers - read by members of team) 2005
- Compression in varicose vein surgery - when is it best applied
(local randomised trial nearing completion).
- Effect of compression on the development of the post DVT syndrome
(currently running randomised control trial).
- Participant GALA Trial - national trial comparing local vs general
anaesthetic in carotid endarterectomy.
